I usually post only a couple of things to NYYRIKKIs social media, mostly Twitter, but on this day the team had a lot of matches scheduled, so I had a bit more to do than usual. Here is a timeline on what I did with pictures included and some of my thoughts on my reasoning. This is a nice way for me to self-reflect and for you to hopefully see how I manage stuff.

First post was about overall info about the day’s matches. Clean spaces between different games, tagging relevant tournament/league organizers and using some emojis to bring more flavor to the post. Picture was our Twitter header rescaled for the purpose since our designated graphic designer wasn’t online yet. Good basic pic that isn’t game specific.
THINGS I LIKE TO FOCUS ON WHEN WRITING POSTS
+ Easy to understand with a quick glance, showcasing important information
+ Tagging relevant accounts
+ Using relevant hashtags within reason
+ Mixing up the post’s flavor with emojis or with a different vocabulary

First match was in FEL Season 4 for League of Legends.
Our graphics usually portray both teams’ logos side-by-side, the tournament/league logo at the bottom and a game related pic in the background on the right + sponsors at the top. Nice, clean and informative in my opinion.
The game was also being streamed, so I put up the link for it. I also always try to give recognition to the people who help make these things possible as PhoenixRising did in this case. I just feel it’s the right thing to do and it shows that we are a good partner to work with.

I usually use the organizers website to see future games and the opponents. This time I noticed our game went missing and reappeared later. As I’m not a big CSGO fan and I don’t know the league structure aswell as others, I double-checked with staff to make sure of it. It wasn’t being streamed, but I do think that it’s better to have more info than less even if it doesn’t rank high on the social media presence.

The League team made a great comeback in game 1, so I wanted to highlight that, and build up the second game, but also do a second post on the stream if some people missed it the first time around. Again credit to the people responsible for the stream.

Now our Overwatch team started their games, so new pic and the relevant info for it. Also decided to leave the emoji in the title of the cup as the organizer does it so, because of the name and I thought it was also funny and mixed up the post a bit.

Second post for League. Game 2 is going well and I wanted to mix it up again, so I used a video this time, since it’s also great for more engagement. Getting the video off of Twitch as your own file and reuploading it makes it a better viewing experience than just an ordinary Twitch clip, although the process itself is slow. Took me a bit of time to get the video online, but thanks to it I managed to make a pun, use emojis for flavor, highlight the stream, the streamer and also highlight one of our players for more follower engagement, so I was happy with the end result.

A basic update on the score and next opponent with a pic. Trying to use different sentences for variety. Not just “we win”. Also highlighting the cup and remembering to put a period before the @ if it starts the tweet in order to get the tweet more visibility on the timeline and not letting it hide in the replies tab.

I have video to work with, so I use it for more engagement. Fitting for a “bigger” post (match win 2-0). Also highlighting accounts (more about that later). Always remembering to put the team’s slogan #theHUNT into tweets (forgot it in the first tweet though, oops) and #esportsfi if it’s related to the Finnish esports scene. Also like to throw a GGWP sometimes at the end of a match with or without a hashtag for our opponent.

A special thank you to the provider of the stream after the match. I think of it as good manners. 🙂

Now for the small oopsie. Apparently the Finnish Esports League (FEL) doesn’t manage the Finnish Esports League (FEL) Season 4 for League of Legends, even though they managed Season 1, 2 and 3. I thought it was a funny coincidence, because what are the chances of it?
It is a small mistake and most likely with no repercussions, but I thought it should be noticed right away with a apology. In hindsight the apology might have been too much (just use ‘sorry’), but I think the emoji and the quick response helps to show it was just a honest slipup. Just own it immediately and continue. 🙂

Basic update on Overwatch. Tried to bring a story about the semifinals.

Another basic update, now hyping up the potential final.

Semifinals and being streamed. Video is always great, so making sure to spam the Twitch link for the fans to watch our team in action!

Mixing up our hype and tight victory post with a nice play from one of our players, giving the player a shoutout with some flavor text and hyping up the upcoming final + stream link.

Mixing up the content again, now by retweeting the organizers tweet instead of just mentioning them. Rallying our fans to support the team on stream with our signature slogan!

Unfortunately we lose the final, so I make a last update on the tournament, thanking our opponent, the organizer and most importantly our fans to show how we appreciate their support. That concludes my social media work for that evening.
I started at 17.30 and ended around 01.00 mainly because of the OW tournament going all the way in one day! Overall I wrote 16 Twitter posts.
Hope this showed a bit on how I do my writing and it shows how much thought I put into these to give 100%! Feedback appreciated. 🙂
